#341: Dale & Paul | From Grit to Greatness: Inspiration from 2024
Welcome to the Energetic Radio podcast. This episode is brought to you
by the school of play dotco, hosted by Dale Sibonham and
Paul Campbell. Each week, we'll bring to you tips, strategies, and ideas
on how you can bring more joy and happiness into your life and those you
share with. Alright, ladies and gentlemen.
Welcome back to the energetic radio podcast, episode number
341. And I tell you what, that number's inspiring. And that's what we're gonna
talk about today. My name is Dale Sullivan. I'm joined by Paul Campbell. How are
you, buddy? Good, mate. How are you? Good, mate. Now I've got a stat you
like starting with, around the number. So I did
a little bit of research over the last 3 years. You've obviously won 3 flags,
and congratulations, recently won 1.
League medals, you've run 2 of those. BNF's 3 in a row. Not bad. So
I went through all the different stats, and I added up the number of league
votes you got in the b and f votes, and you got 341
combined votes. Did I really? No idea.
I'm like, that sounds like way too many women. Holy shit. You're
an idiot. I'm pretty happy with that. I thought you'd like that. Firstly, though, yes,
it's a little bit of a joke, but congratulations, mate. Thank you, mate. I appreciate
that. Look at you guys, super proud of you this this morning. You're like,
Cambo, I've got the stats now. I was like, yes, he's coming
with some stats and low and behold, he stitched me up yet again. Oh, all
my Made up. That is awesome. You made them all up. But, yeah, thanks to
the little tip of the hat to the premiership. Shout out to the Parkdale boys.
We, we won 3 in a row the other week and, yeah, 3 peat's pretty
special. And, yeah, nice to cap it off with a couple of lead b and
f chefs, but you bloody asshole. No. I really like that,
mate. Now, obviously, I'm starting today's podcast because if you listen to the brilliant one
we did last week with Marcus, I I don't even know if I was in
the room. I struggled to get a word in, and not many people would say
that about me in my life. So I was like, you know what? I don't
know if I'll get much in again today, so I'm gonna kick it off. I
really love how you've just not like a fish out of water. You've just
gone bang, and podcast guru. I can't even talk anymore. So,
mate, you're enjoying it. Things are going well. We're back on board. Episode
341. What is it about today? Because it once again,
topics Yep. Topics gamble, you brought this one along. What are we doing
today, mate? A, we're just the 2 of us, and it's
nice just to have the 2 of us back in the studio. Yes. I bloody
love it. It's a good chat. I've noticed a lot a few weeks ago, just
throughout the year, I've been really mindful of taking note of
what's inspired me throughout the year, and then trying to take little life lessons from
it, trying to learn from it, trying to think of how I can incorporate it
into my own life. And, yeah, I was literally driving along and I was thinking
about podcasts, as we do. I thought what a cool topic we could
do. So talk about what's inspired us this year and what we've taken from it,
what lessons we've taken from it. And I reckon it'd be a really cool topic
to throw out to our listeners Yeah. Go on. And try and get a
bit of feedback, you know, from our listeners about what's inspired them.
I I said to you before I asked my kids last night, you know, what's
inspired them? And my little 6 year old Hunter came with some crackers, and I'll
really quickly share one. He told me about his mate Murphy, and he said, my
mate Murphy inspires me, and this kid's in prep. My mate Murphy inspires
me because he's always so kind, and he doesn't he makes sure that no one's
playing by himself. And I just was like, holy
crap, man. As a 6 year old, I'm thinking that the awareness and empathy to
you know, that's what inspired him with his mate Murphy. And look at the life
lessons he's learned from that inspiration already is to look out for other people.
And that got me thinking. I was like, man, I reckon there'd be some amazing
stories out there of what's inspiring people this year and what they're taking
from it. So here we are. Let's just have a discussion about all things inspiration.
Yeah. It's great. And so, obviously, yeah, while we're doing this, I probably wouldn't
have done this myself, but Campbell's been asking me every week. What's inspiring
inspiring? I'm like, woah. Alright. So that's a great topic to do, and I really
encourage, and I know you do as well, mate. Encourage listeners. It's always good to
action something from a podcast or something you're learning. So
challenge for you today is, obviously, enjoy what we're probably going to share, but more
importantly, maybe take a little bit of time to think about yourself, and what's
inspired you today. I think it's important to have some homework, some positive homework.
Yeah. And that would be my little task for you. So, Cambo,
your list was bigger than any emails I've ever seen you write.
It's only taking you longer to pick 3, because I've just picked 3. Yeah. I'll
be honest. I got 7. Well, I've got I've
shortlisted I've shortlisted my list down to 7,
but I can only choose 3 of the 7 you want. I'll play with a
quick talk about the other ones, but, but you're right, dude. And you're right.
And you know the cool thing is since I had the idea about 4 weeks
ago of this podcast Yeah. You do start to
take note of what's inspiring you, and it bloody makes a difference. Can
you like, man, I've learned that from it. I'm gonna implement that in my life.
I'm gonna take that lesson from somebody else, and, it's a great
little great little thing to do. Great little task. Great little homework task as you
said. So yeah. I'm I and we don't know each other. So I don't know
Dal's 3. You did sort of ask before, so I'm not telling you. I know
we did. And I and I like that because now I'm now I'm, like, I'm
intrigued about what's coming up. But I'm telling you. We have no idea which direction
this podcast is gonna go in other than all things inspirational. But, do you wanna
go first with me? I think you would've nearly had 341 written down your
phone. It's like, wow. That's a good thing. Yeah. I know it is. So I've
got yeah. As I say, I've got 3. I've got, sort of one
about people. I've got one about sort of our business and then something
we're doing that's really inspired me. So the first one,
is my sister, Hannah, her partner, Tim, and,
little boy, Finn, who's my nephew and, he's godfather, which is lovely.
He was born little bit of context. He was born at
20:24 weeks. It's about 700
grams when he was born. So really premature. They spent
over a 100 days in NICU in the Royal Children's.
And it's just been you know, he's one and a half now, and it's
like, just the complications and just how
just experiencing that with him, the the highs, the lows. And he he's a
happy little kid, like, he's lovely, but he's still, like, got a feeding tube and
things like that, but it doesn't slow him down. And that's, a couple of
months ago, like, he's walking, he's running around, and, like, he's just happy,
but he's had so many things go against him. And it just makes
me think, like and particularly when I think of my sister and and team
that it's been so hard for me. They're doing such a good job. Yep.
And it just reminds me that, you know, like like, you speak a
lot about perspective that, when things are going tough in my
life, I'm struggling in front of my kids or, things like that, it it
just they they inspire me to, like, just get on with
it and move on, that it's not that important, you know,
and and try and be positive and brave and and because that's exactly what they've
been. Yeah. So for me, that's been really inspiring, and I probably haven't
I haven't told them that. But You should tell them that. Yeah. I know. I
know. I probably will after doing this. So Yeah. It's been one of those things
that it's strange as a family, like, because we've all been really supportive
and things like that, but it's obviously been draining and hard. Like, and
it's, you know, he's going well, but he's
still got he still got a feeding tube and, like, he's still
contact naps and, like, all these different things. They're just so
demanding and, like, on Han and Tim. And Yeah.
So then he couldn't go to they're they're both back at work, and he couldn't
go to daycare because he's still got a tube and, like, so
Yeah. Mom and dad then are looking after him 4 days a week, you know,
and they're taking that in turns. So it's just been really inspiring as a
whole family to see not only how good Han and Tim have been
as a as a couple, but, giving Finn every opportunity
and and allowing to thrive as a happy young boy, which he is. But also,
yeah, my parents, you know, how selfless they've been by
just giving up everything to really help them
out. Yeah. Yes. It's been inspiring for me in a lot of
different ways. I suppose I hadn't really thought about it that deeply
until Yax's question. And, that's the one thing when you said we're gonna do a
podcast on this, that's the one thing I wrote up on the wall. It's stuck
on the wall idea. And I'm gonna be honest with you. I tracked back a
few tears that jeez that's that's an emotional start. That's a beautiful start. And I've
been privileged to the side bottom family, particularly last 3 months
since I've really come on board and spent a lot of time together. And let
me tell you the, I wasn't I wasn't gonna write this, but
you guys have inspired me as well as a family, how you've all chipped in
together and and how you've come together to support, you know, Hannah and
Tim and, Eddie's bloody inspiring. I love that you put the word perspective in there
because, you know, everyone listening out there, sometimes just stop yourself and
go, how you know, is it that bad what I'm dealing with? What are some
people dealing with? Well, there's some people some people can't even have kids. You know
what I mean? That's true. I think you do need a like, that reality check
where you do need to pull yourself up on it Yeah. And think about your
actions, your words, and and how you're acting. Yep.
Because, yeah, often, you know, it's not near as bad as you think. You're still
extremely grateful and and fortunate. Yeah. And I think that yeah.
That's what I've got out of that. Yeah. I love that. Well done, mate. Thank
you for sharing that. That's a beautiful one. That's a beautiful. I think my first
one might piggyback off yours a little bit. Yeah. We might be able to make
a link here, which is really cool. So Wow. And it not as deep though
or not as deep, but, my first one, I was listening to a podcast
about a month ago, a Simon Sinek podcast. He does all things leadership,
and he had a poet on there called In Q. And I won't go too
much on that, but essentially, this guy's a poet and he works with corporates and
he gets into write poetry and connect with the people. Anyway, but In Q, we
talk a lot in our business and our workshops around mindfulness and being
present. And we're both useless at meditating. Right? That's not
who we are, but just the importance of trying to be present. And In Q
explained it the best way I've ever heard it, and it stuck with me for
the last 4 weeks. And you've actually got it written on a post it note.
I'm looking at it right now above your desk. I do like a post it
note. He does. He loves a post note. It's very colorful. And and
it's and explain this. He goes, mindfulness is about being present, but it's
about honoring the moment. And if you can stop and actually
tell yourself every time something amazing is happening in front of your eyes and
then have a little voice inside your head that says, Paul, honor the
moment. And let me tell you, it works wonders for being
present. I've used it a 100 times since in the last month,
and I just said to myself, no one knows I'm saying it, but it just
allows me to make sure that I'm really bloody present in that moment. I'm giving
it my full attention, and I'm honoring that moment. And it might be for 10
seconds. You know what I mean? It might be for a minute. It might be
for 3 minutes, whatever it is. But for those of you out there listening, if
you have trouble understanding or thinking what is mindfulness or what does it
mean to be present, have a go at thinking about honoring the moment
and just say to yourself in your head, and it will allow you to be
fully present and really absorb what's going in front of your eyes and appreciate
that little bit of gold that life thrown at you. Yeah. I like that one.
And I always used to say it's called present because it's a gift, you know,
and I think that's exactly right. If you do take that gift, you'll actually
understand what it means to be present. Yeah. Sort of like a twofold. But I
love that honoring the moment. I'd never heard that until you mentioned it. So And
now it's now it's I think it's in a both our lives now, isn't it?
I know it'll be there to stay. Post it note till it falls down. And
then I'm like, and then I'm like, right now. I wonder how long the post
it note life expectancy is of the stickiness. Dang. Boy, good. We'll find out.
Alright. Over to you, Soddy. Mate, this one is gonna it is
you. You've inspired me since coming on. Not that
I was stale, but I think I'd got to a stage
that I've worked really hard for a long period of time, and I'd set everything
up. And I've I've done enough to keep,
like, to do what I was doing. And sort of my inspiration,
I was probably only working 1 or 2 hours a day if I like, and
some days I wouldn't work, which was was fine. Yeah. But
for the first, you know, 4 or 5 years of business, I was crazy. Like,
I so driven. And I think by you coming back on board,
I've found that again, and I like, the spark's back,
and I, like, I missed it. I just I don't know. I think I was
I wasn't burning out, but I was I didn't even know the
word. Like, I just like, I'd run my course, I feel, and I needed
an injection or something. You know, I need new inspiration, and I think that's what's
happened, you know, and, we've created student agency course here, which is brilliant.
But more importantly, through the curriculum that we're designing, we're nearly
finished. That's really inspired me and it's allowed me to tap
into all these things I've done over the probably last 7, 8 years
and combine it into something that I didn't have, or
we didn't have. Just had all these loose sort of ends and this has been
the inspiration to put it all together and go, wow. That's why
I did everything I did and work really hard. I didn't know it at the
time Yeah. But you've inspired me to put it all together. And
I I suppose my thing here is, everyone, just because it may not work or
fit now or there might not be a purpose for it, doesn't mean don't do
it. You know, I was a big believer in that. I've got so many things
I've created over the years, and you've laughed at a few of them that aren't
very good. But I don't know. Now they're sort of all coming back together
because you're still creative. You still did it. So for me,
having you here working side by side in the bunker like we
are, it's been probably a couple of very boring weeks. I don't think I've sat
down so much. My neck, For those people that sit down all the time
and just had a computer, my my neck, I've never felt anything like it. I
don't know what we would do if we didn't move our bodies every day. Yeah.
Because by 2:30, 3 o'clock every day, I feel like I've been
shot. Yep. But saying that, I've also really
enjoyed it because it created something that I'm really proud of. So
having you here has inspired me, and it's probably
something that I've always knew we're gonna create. We've
created it. Yeah. Yeah. So Thanks, mate. That's beautiful. And you know what?
This is going this is going game buses because that will roll into my another
one. We did as planned, he said. Where to go with your
plans? We did it. I'm seeing as we wax each other right now, I'm gonna
wax you a little bit. One of mine is you. Thank you.
And it's funny you said that for a while there, you'd work a couple hours
a day or you wouldn't work a day, whatever it might be. Because I've got
here work ethic. Your
mate, your energy to head down, bum
up and simply work your absolute backside off to create something you believe
in has incredibly it's it's blown me away and it's inspired by learning
tomorrow. And I need to lift a little bit. I know, And, you know, I
come in and you're already working. I leave and you're still working. I can It's
not a competition. I was on a competition at 7 o'clock at night. He sent
me stuff. He's like living and breathing this thing. And I'm slowly understanding the
importance of when you're creating something that you believe in and you love and
you respect and it's yours, then go at it with, you
know, a 120% and give it all you can. And the
little old cliche like, yeah, I've jumped on board and I'm incredibly appreciative for you
have me and I love it. But what I've I said this to someone the
other day, and this is really cliche, but I don't feel like I've ever been
I haven't been to work yet. Yeah. It sounds crazy. Right? But I don't feel
like I've been to work for the last 10 weeks. And that's something I've never
felt in my life. And so I wanna thank you for that. And it's
really true. So people out there, we always want you to take someone away from
it. Be brave. Yeah. Be brave. Right? And and Dal got stuck into me
and he and he pried me away from my 9 to 5. He believed in
me and he got me out of it. And it's bloody inspiring to be sitting
next to someone who believes in what we do so much.
And it's led to me. I've not once had the Sunday night blues, not once
I work off on Monday going shit. I gotta go to work today. It's the
complete opposite. And I can't wait to get into work. I can't wait to feed
off your energy. And it's at the moment, I
currently feel like I'm one of the happiest I've ever been. Wow. That's nice. That's
saying something for me. Right? Because I've generally walked the earth pretty bloody happy. So
honestly, for the bottom of my heart, Jesus is getting deep now. But, yeah. Thanks,
mate. So you've inspired me. So I can't inspired me. So I can't believe that
our first two have managed to That's really nice. A little bit here. But yeah.
So if you're out there, people, and you're not doing something you love, like, be
brave. Take a step and even start a side
hustle first. Have to and this is a big thing I would always say to
people. Don't quit you don't have to quit your job. No. But your job will
come better if you're doing something else that you enjoy doing. Yeah. And don't do
it to make money. Do it because you love it, and it can help other
people. And through that, then if people love
it and it's good and it's authentic, then the money will come.
Yeah. But you can't just go out and wanna just check make money. If
that's your objective, it won't work. Yeah. And it won't bring you the happiness you
want. And that's where a lot of people would always say to me, oh, how
do I start? What do I do? Well, just start doing something that you really
enjoy doing because then the rest will flow. But until you
start doing something, nothing will happen. Yeah. You know? And it's scary. I get it.
It is. It's scary. But It is. I thought I was shooting myself. Yeah. I
know you were. Yeah. But for listeners out there, like, I I said
I approached Paul, and I said, mate, I want you to come on board. I
want you to start turn 2. And I remember you saying, you had to give
work notice. And you said, I might just do another term. And I
bluntly said, you either give notice today or you cannot
worry about giving a term because you'll be there forever. Yeah. And I said,
it's now or never made. Put your big pants on and grow up. And I
Best decision I've ever made. I've ever been as blunt, but that was true. I
was like, we're on. We're moving. We're doing this. Otherwise, we're not. Yeah.
Yeah. And thank you for pushing me. I appreciate it. It's bloody awesome. No. I
love that. But, and I suppose that's the last one for me that comes
obviously, I didn't wanna make this. It's all about things I've done, but I've created
a lot of different brands over the years that, like, we've got all these
different things. We're trying to figure it out now how we can mix it all
together, because I'm loving what we've created together, the vision, the school of play.
And, essentially, that's what we do. But to get there, it took
a lot of different things that you don't just know. You've gotta try things. So
for me, personally, that's inspired me as well because I really
love our why, what we stand for, the branding,
the name, and the product that we've created. You know, our
staple products, like, they're awesome. Yeah.
And for me, that's inspiring. That's pushing me to wanna create more
and do more things with what we have because now it'll make sense. Yep.
Whereas previously, it's made sense to me, but not to other
people. And sometimes you make decisions around particularly Sugar Life, which
is one of our brands, which means plain Spanish. Great name, but no
one knows Spanish. No one can pronounce it. Every time I get up and do
a keynote, they're like, oh, Jugga, Jugga. Is it sugar? I don't even say it
right. I think it's hyga, and people will pick me up on this. It's Spanish,
and obviously my English isn't that good anyway. But now
for me, I used to, like, not wanna tell people the name of the business
because I was sort of embarrassed by it. Okay. And then I was sort of
nearly going back and forth 360 to when I started just energetic education.
And I went away from that because I wanted to be a broader brand and
not just be education. But now we've done a 360 on that with a school
of play, You know? And, realistically, we still do corporates. We still do these other
things, but now it makes sense. We are a school that teaches
about play. It doesn't matter who you are. Everyone needs to play. Yeah. So all
different avenues of it makes sense, and I love it. And I'm actually
really proud of it. Yeah. It should be. So that's inspiring me because
I must admit, I haven't been able to say that. Or when I people go,
what do you do? I don't even know where to start. Yeah. Now I do.
It's very simple. It's very clear. And it's something that, yeah, has
inspired me to keep going because I can see that this is needed and it
works and it makes sense. So that's my last one, mate. And I love
that you've got a bit of inspiration from yourself and the work you've done over
the last 10 years, and you're bloody right. It's come together. Oh, it's amazing.
Unbelievable, hasn't it? It's all sort of yeah. It's meant to be. Right? And now
you're ready to package it out and send it to the world and, yeah, watch
out. Because I think that's not not for a long time, but not that I
was lost, but you don't like, you're trying to create all these things and be
something to everyone, and it just wasn't being really anything to anyone.
Yeah. So you just you're going about it, and, yeah, now, actually,
I've got clear thing of what we do, what we say, and I love it.
Yeah. And that's really important. You've got to really believe in what you do. And
I must admit, there was a while there I didn't believe in it, but I
was like, what do I change it to? So you just keep going.
Oh, it's confusing, and people get confused. Yeah. So, anyway, that's that's
sort of in a nutshell that people have inspired me, you've inspired me, but then
the brand's keeping that going. Beautiful. I'll have it, mate. Thank you. My,
my third one is from a heartthrob, Ryan Reynolds. Oh.
Heartthrob. What are you gonna say like Mel? No.
Mel, if you're Mel, if you're listening, you're also a heartthrob. This is Ryan
Reynolds. Deadpool. You're welcome. I'm not picturing Rex
Deadpool this moment. I'm picturing him as probably Ryan Reynolds. Welcome to Rex. Yeah. Great
show. Welcome to Rex. Amazing. Really sorry. You get That's right. And it's
for all your parents out there. And obviously, Dal and I are both parents. And
that's why this one has inspired me. It's another thing that's I've heard that
has stuck with me and sort of changed my outlook on how I'm living life,
so I've taken a lesson from it. We've both got young
kids. Right? And and your kids frustrate you. My kids frustrate you.
I'm sure everyone's kids frustrate you. I'm like, oh, I'm a little 4 year old.
Like, oh, like I had a little of dipping last night. Anyway, Ryan Reynolds said
this, he goes, just bear this in mind when you're dealing with your
kid and you are getting frustrated and your fuse is getting shorter and you
can feel that happening, picture this, picture that you're
now 80 years of age and picture that that what that looks like and what
that feels like, and you would give anything to go back
and have that moment again with your 4 year old. Because by the time you're
80, your 4 year old is gonna be 44, and they're gonna be growing up,
living their own life. And you, as an 80 year old, you would give anything
to have that frustrating moment again with your little 4 year old
son. So don't get so frustrated with it. Understand that
they're bloody 4 years of age. They're still figuring shit out. They're gonna
get things wrong. We get things wrong as adults, let alone when we're 4.
And that little one comment that I heard online somewhere, that's
inspired me. I was like, man, that's such a good idea to think about. And
once again, I've used that the last few weeks. And at times when I'm
getting frustrated with my kids, I'm like, man, imagine me in 80,
and And I would give anything to have this moment again back and you end
up rubbing their hair and giving a little smile, whatever it is, and a little
cheeky response as opposed to maybe getting a little bit shady with them. Yeah. And
I think it's just been a really cool little parenting tip that's inspired me to
happy, a bit calmer as a parent and not harp on the small stuff.
So of all you parents out there, when you're getting frustrated, try and think of
that. Go, man, if I was 80 right now, I would give anything for this
little turd to frustrate me again right now. You know what I mean? And That's
a good point. Yeah. I like that. Probably very similar to last
week's guest, Marcus. You know, we were talking about, obviously, noodle cart
and, you know, things around playgrounds and things, but a lot of it came back
to sort of parenting and his advice around, you know, the narrative we
tell and talk around, particularly food and different experiences. Yep.
I think it's, yeah, really important. Yeah. Once again, perspective, it
makes you realize that, you know, you even though it's tough, like,
you're still very fortunate to be able to have somebody that is
your child that and now I probably need to hear that because I've lost it
last 2 nights, like, really bad, like a psycho. Yeah. I'll
own it. I'll own it. I mean, I don't know. I mean, I don't know.
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I apologize, but,
Yeah. I think that's why it's good. You gotta listen. You gotta learn, and we're
not always perfect, but you've gotta you've gotta you've gotta action
things. Yeah. And that's one thing in action. Right? Like, in your mind, once again,
nominees know you're thinking it. No. But if you're getting frustrated, try
and remember this little conversation we've had and go, oh, yeah. I might try and
actually not lose my crap Yeah. Because I'd love to have this moment again in
in 40 years time. Yep. Yeah. Or just take a couple of deep breaths, and
that's what I normally say and that's what I normally go I need to go
back to, but also I haven't. So That's bloody brilliant. I love it. I love
it. And now I did have 38 inspirational things with me. Yeah. No. It's okay.
Go for it. Go for it. It's a little stun drop. But, so I'll make
a couple of quick mentions, but, other things that inspired me this year really quickly,
I won't get into too much depth. But Paul Watkins, we obviously podcasted him a
few weeks ago. Yep. And his lost and found book completely
inspired me. And I think I talked about it during that pod, but just grit.
Just the need for us as human beings to have bloody grit. And it's a
mindset. And when things get tough or things are ongoing, your favor
call upon your grit, develop it. The more you call upon it, the better you
develop it. And just everyone has grit inside them somewhere.
And I've found that I'm calling upon it more and more especially when I'm exercising,
and it bloody works. So thank you, mister Watkins. I love that. And his book's
great, but he's so much better in person as well. So if you haven't got
a if you haven't got a ticket to our, Parkdale talk, obviously,
the entree is me. You'll get a a little bit of myself, but then you
can sit through the main, which is a great man. Yeah. Brilliant. I'm I'm
pumped to listen to him. I'm pumped. I really wanna touch on our our Mount
Beauty workshops. Dal and I went up to Mount Beauty and ran some fun shops
up in Mount Beauty and it was a beautiful little community. And there was a
little girl there, we were getting the students to write a power message.
Something they're proud of, something they admire, and something they love about somebody. And this
girl was sitting there writing and she had a broken right hand. And I noticed
that she was writing this letter with her left hand and it was all for
writing, eligible, but she wouldn't give up. And then I went down and I
squatted next to her. I'm like, hey, are you are you right handed? She said,
yep. I'm like, are you writing this left hand? And
she said, yeah. She said, I'm writing it to my mom because I just really
want her to appreciate and understand how much I love her and how much
I appreciate everything she's done for me. This is Oh, yeah. She was she was
she's 7. And, and then the beautiful
moment was when she said my mom's actually in the room. She was a teacher
in the in the thing. Oh, man. This that moment of inspiration
of family and showing your love and appreciation for someone you spoke
about, you know, your pal message to yourself a few weeks ago and and to
others. And, just that moment captured me massively about
the importance of family and the importance of showing each other how much you bloody
mean. And the fact is that you 7 girl could have easily gone, I got
a broken arm, can't do a sex act activity. Mom would have understood.
But she grabbed her pen and left hand and that just inspired me. I think
it inspired me to be a better human because she was a bloody good human
being. I was like, man, that was awesome. That was really deep and I love
that one. That was unreal. I'll give a quick shout out to my wife
because she's recently embarked on an amazing, you
know, transformation to become the best version of herself. We we're all about
that. You know, our why is all about becoming the best version of yourself. And
Mel, if you're listening, I'm just bloody incredibly proud of you because you've stuck to
your guns, and you are working your absolute backside off to become
the best version of yourself. And that inadvertently has made me grip my
teeth a little bit more and get a little bit more exercise and more fitness
in and Good. Yes. So thanks, man. That's awesome. And the last one I'm gonna
throw out just the fox sisters. I don't know why the Fox sisters come jump
my head, but that's a bit of a funny one. But, like, the Fox sisters
at the Olympics, just when the younger sister won And they
all jumped in the water. And they all jumped in the water. It was just
a moment where I was like, man, that's an inspiring moment.
I don't know. Just I wasn't expecting one. Yeah. The Fox sisters. I don't
know. That one was not The canoes. Yeah. The canoes. Out of all 36 I
wrote down, that's why I'm like, you know what I'm talking about? Just the I
don't know. The sense of family and the sense of
sheer love that they had for each other and that the, you know, I'm sure
if Jess was in that fight against his sister, I reckon she would have thrown
it anyway so her sister could win it. Because I just I reckon she wanted
her sister to win it that much, but just the love that they showed for
each other, bloody jump in the water. I think that moment will go down in
Australian history, in Australian sporting history, and it just made me really think about
family and that kind of stuff. And, yeah, I don't know. It just inspired me
a little bit. It's sort of out there for me, Eric Musumbani, Eric
Deal. Yes. I like Good deal. I've always think of that.
Like, for those who don't know Eric Musumbani, everyone I don't think
there was anyone else in the heat, and he's African and Yep. Like, he
couldn't swim very well at all. He's, like, nearly drowning, but he still did
it. Never gave up. Yeah. Had grit. Yeah. He did. He had grit, didn't he?
Yeah. Had grit. That's a smiley moment I never forget. There you go. I think
everyone's got one. Everyone have one that that they won't forget. So,

bringing them up. I think it'd be awesome, man. And I've been asking some friends
and family. They've got some nuggets of gold out there, but your homework as
Dale touched upon. Have a think about what's inspiring you and take some life
lessons from it because don't let them pass you by. They're all around you. It
doesn't have to be Olympian Olympians. It can be little things you hear in a
podcast or someone sitting opposite you. But just have think about what's inspiring
you and take a little life lesson from it and bank it, and and use
it. And I think it's a really important part of life that we don't often
reflect upon or think about. Right? That's right. I think you thought I was a
little bit crazy when I thought let's do a podcast and inspiration. I didn't. I
didn't think you were crazy. I just I was just waiting to do the podcast
because it's all you speak about. I'm like, buddy, how are we gonna get this
done? I know. And I'm glad that ours aligned somewhat. Yeah. They do. It's fun.
